Spring
Spring fishing starts with ice out in early May.
Sap starts to flow in April, we have local Sugar Camps that you can visit and learn how the syrup process.
If you come up in the spring, or anytime, stop by and see Claude at his sugarhouse. If he is around, he would love to give you a tour. For more information call 207-668-4110.
Spring in Maine: when the days lengthen and become warmer, yet the nights are still below freezing in the North Country, this is the sweetest time of the year in Maine-"it's sugar time!"
Arnold Farm Sugarhouse, which is located just North of Jackman on the Hilton Cemetery Road in Sandy Bay Township, began producing syrup in the year 2000 with a tap placed in the tree
The past few years, he has expanded into a modern, commercial maple syrup operation, producing syrup from more than 50,000 taps. The taps are connected to plastic sap pipelines, and with the aid of a vacuum system, the sap flows to the sugarhouse into large storage tanks. From there, maple syrup is made.
Summer
Summer brings excellent fishing in the many brooks, streams, rivers, ponds and
lakes of the Jackman area. In the area are salmon, togue, brook trout, splake and cusk. Dry fly fishing is excellent in select spring-fed ponds during July and August. There's hiking on marked scenic trails and over miles of logging roads, where mountain biking is also excellent. There are many canoeing day trips on easily accessible lakes and rivers and we'll provide everything you need. Another day trip is historic old Quebec City, 2.5 hours away. Golf on the tight Moose River Golf Course may interest you. Also whitewater rafting on the Kennebec and Dead Rivers is guaranteed to be memorable.Fall
Hunting is the name of the game this time of year. The game includes bear in September and again in November. We can arrange a complete hunt over bait for you or bring your own dogs. The last week of September and first week of October find the foliage at its peak. October is a beautiful time for partridge, woodcock, ducks and rabbits and the archery season for deer is open. Don't forget the moose season in October. Drop us a line to get a lottery permit application; the application deadline is April 1st. When applying for a permit, please note that Jackman is in Zone 8. November it's time to "get your deer" or to have another crack at bear. Finally in December, your muzzle loader gets your shot at a deer.Winter
Winter in Jackman means SNOW! And that means great snowmobiling. We're the hub for hundreds
of miles of trails. ITS 89 runs from Rangeley on the west, through Jackman and north to the Canadian border, 16 miles away, ITS 86 stretches from Jackman east to Greenville (Moosehead Lake area) and up to Millinocket. Jackman maintains an area system of excellent groomed trails; there are many additional ungroomed trails available. Ask for trail maps. The ice fishing is just as good as the snowmobiling too. We make it easy, whether it's your first time or fiftieth, by providing a package that includes everything from the hole and live bait to the hut. A totally unique experience is visiting a moose or deeryard and looking for antlers to take home. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing .
